Until Samuel Beckett became famous, he had "not a bean" for decades. He was broke. "When he spilled the beans" by divulging the secret of his survival strategy, he was praised for the culture of failure: Ever Tried. Ever failed. No Matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better...

The head of a person, also called a "bean" in the UK, is the pear in Germany. "Hasse wat inne Birne, isset jut Alda." That's what they say in Berlin. Helmut Kohl's nickname was Birne. In cold weather, beanies warm not only German pear heads and British bean heads, but all heads in the Global Village, even fools. The beanies from WEBER + WEBER are made from merino wool. The fine wool from merino sheep is pre-washed, ecologically dyed in small factories and knitted by master craftsmen. The invention of beanies remains British. It reached mainland Europe in 1940.

Scarves originated in the 15th century at the court of powerful Mughals in Kashmir. Scarves made from the hair of the cashmere goat found their way to Europe as gifts around 1780.
